Carla joined Baron in 2006 and currently serves as Head of Financial Institutions. From 2004 to 2006, Carla worked at UBS AG as Executive Director in new business development. From 1997 to 2004, Carla worked at JPMorgan Private Bank as a Vice President. From 1993 to 1995, Carla worked at Banamex as an economic and industry research associate. From 1991 to 1992, Carla worked at Ludwig von Mises Institute as Project Director of NAFTA. Carla graduated from Universidad Iberoamericana with a B.B.A. in 1991 and from MIT Sloan School of Management with an M.B.A. in 1997.

Deborah Berebichez

Deborah Berebichez is a physicist, STEM advocate and financial engineer. She graduated with a physics Ph.D. from Stanford University, where she developed a highly effective technique to focus wireless signals for communications. Dr. Berebichez is the co-host of Discovery Channel’s Outrageous Acts of Science TV show (2012 – 2014) where she uses her physics background to explain the science behind extraordinary engineering feats.

Dr. Berebichez is the Global Ambassador for Technovation Challenge to teach hundreds of high school girls from under-served communities how to code science-based mobile apps and start high-tech companies based on them. She is a frequent public speaker and has been recognized by Oprah, CNN, WSJ, TED, DLD, WIRED and others.

Helena Escalante

Helena was born in Mexico City and arrived to NY in 2012.  Her knowledge and expertise center around the areas of marketing and communications.  She has worked in the private as well as in the public sectors both in Mexico and in the United States.  Currently, she is the President of Helena Escalante Marketing & Communications, a consulting firm.

She started the Spanish entrepreneurial program at the New York Public Library, and has given many international conferences and workshops about marketing, social media, digital media, communications and multicultural aspects.  She is an avid reader of business topics as well as personal development.  She is married and has 2 furry dogs who have trained her very well to give them treats and take them to the park.

Bárbara Fernández

Barbara Fernandez was born in Ixtapaluca, Mexico. She’s an architect from Universidad Iberoamericana and has a Masters degree in Landscape Design from Columbia University. She started her career working for Legorreta Arquitectos in México City, and Moshe Safdie Architects in Sommerville, MA. Since 2002, Barbara has dedicated herself to her children while remaining active as an independent architect and landscape designer.

Barbara is a board member of Qualitas of Life Foundation and APEM in NYC, where she lives since 2009 with her husband and now four children.

Julio Mariscal

Julio has been living and working in the United States for the past nine years.  He currently works in the Investment Bank Division of Natixis, a French financial group belonging to BPCE.  Throughout his career he has worked for financial institutions such as BBVA and Banamex, for international organizations such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, and for Dalberg Global Development Advisors, a strategic consulting firm.  Julio has valuable experience in the development and evaluation of  the impact from public policy addressing poverty and economics.  As a strategic consultant he collaborated with the Government of Chile  to develop its energy efficiency strategy, and with the Government of Guatemala to develop a national competitiveness strategy.  Julio holds an MPA with a concentration in Economics and Finance from the University of Columbia in New York, and he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad de las Américas, in Pueblam México. Julio lives in Nueva York with his wife Rosa.

Marcela Ramírez

Marcela has lived in NYC since 2005.  She works for Citibank in the Consumer Bank Division.  Given the merger of Citi and Banamex in the early 2000’s, Marcela was transferred to NY where Citibank’s headquarters are located.

Marcela heads Transfer, Debit Card and Prepaid Products.  Marcela came to the U.S. to develop the Family Remittances business for Citibank.  Remittances are the money that immigrants send to their home countries to support their families.

Prior to her relocation to NYC, Marcela worked at Banamex in the development of transfers and remittance products from the U.S.  She has vast knowledge of the banking industry, as she has held diverse positions in consumer, commercial and corporate banking in Mexico and the United States.

Marcela has a degree from ITAM in Mexico City and an MBA from Stern School of Business, New York University.

Myriam Rebling

Myriam was born in Guaymas, Sonora.  she currently works for the Mexican Consulate General in New York in the Economic Affairs Department.  She spent the greater part of her professional career working in the financial sector for Casa de Bolsa Inbursa both in Mexico and New York.  She is co-founder of Eco Friendly Expo, LLC, a company dedicated to promoting trade shows for eco-friendly products and services.

Myriam obtained her MBA from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), and received her bachelor’s degree in International Business from the Florida Atlantic University.

She also serves as VP for the Parents Association at the Lycée Français de New York.

Mariana Sánchez de Ovando

Mariana was born in Puebla and raised in Mexico City.  She studied Communication and Advertising in France.  She arrived in New York 18 years ago, having been relocated by the company for which she worked back then.  In the advertising world, she worked managing global accounts for Procter and Gamble at D’Arcy and Saatchi & Saatchi.  She went on a professional hiatus and dedicated herself to humanitarian causes, working as a volunteer for months at a time in Uganda and India.  She is about to enter the corporate world again, and in the mean time, she dedicates her time to humanitarian work as well as adverting consulting.

Jorge Suárez

Jorge Suárez Velez has worked since 1981 for financial institutions such as Banorte (Mexico), Nomura (Japan), Bank Julius Baer (Switzerland) and ING (Holland).  He is a sough-after speaker who delights university and corporate audiences throughout the continent.  In 2008 he founded SP Family Office in New York, where he continues to work.  Since 1998 he has been a frequent guest commentator for CNN en Español, since 2010 for Foro TV, and since 2011 he has been collaborating with Oscar Mario Beteta in his radio show “En los tiempos de la radio” in Mexico.  Jorge is also a frequent guest in dozens of TV and radio shows in the United States and Latin America.  He is the author of the blog “Diario de la Crisis” which is published in the Letras Libres magazine website.  In 2011 he published La próxima gran caída de la economía mundial, and in 2012 Ahora o nunca: La gran oportunidad de México para crecer.  Both books were editorial successes in Mexico and other countries.  Jorge lives in New York with his wife Miriam and their two daughters Daniela y Mariana.

Carlos Valverde

Carlos Valverde has been living in New York City since 2007 and is a real estate developer and architect. He currently works at Silverstein Properties, a renowned real estate development organization, as Construction and Development Manager for the new World Trade Center.

Carlos is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn non-profit, community center, Mixteca Organization, and is President of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Talent Network (Tri-State Region Chapter). Carlos received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.
